Weekend Adventure at Bostalsee

Wow, where did a week go?!? Quite honestly nothing exciting has happened in the last week here, just work, work, work.  We did manage to get out and about this weekend though, so here’s a quick recap!

Kenne signed us up to do a Wounded Warrior Project Soldier Ride on Saturday morning at Bostalsee (great area – see more here).  The Wounded Warrior Project is a charity and veterans service organization that offers a variety of programs, services and events for wounded veterans.  Specifically, the Soldier Ride is a unique four-day cycling opportunity for wounded service members and veterans to use cycling and the bonds of service to overcome physical, mental, or emotional wounds.  You can learn more here.  The opening ceremony was truly touching and I’m so glad we had the opportunity to take part in the event.

We decided to challenge ourselves a bit and signed up for the 14 mile ride.  Now, I am just getting comfortable with riding a bike again but 14 miles seemed manageable.  I was feeling pretty good at the halfway break point and even at 10 miles I think I was still holding on.  I lost the group in the last few miles and I was really struggling to keep up.  I finished, albeit exhausted, but I finished!

Kenne and I liked Bostalsee so much that we decided to go back on Sunday with Remi.  There are pedestrian and bike paths surrounding a lake that offers boating, paddle boarding, and swimming for both humans and canines!  We strolled around the lake with the pup and got more than a few double-takes.  We eventually made it to the dog-friendly part of the lake and off the leash he went.  After 6 miles and some lunch, we were on the road home and Remi was promptly sound asleep.

Now, on to conquer the rest of the week!
