Is 2015 really over? This year has flown by and what an adventure it has been!
It’s been a busy couple of months since I last posted, but here’s a quick rundown of our holiday season.
Last month, Kenne’s parents – Phil and Sandy – visited us for the third time this year! We have been so fortunate to have so many friends and family visit Europe (and us) this year, particularly these two. While Phil and Sandy were here, we traveled to Garmisch-Partenkirchen in southeast Germany near the Austrian border. To say it is beautiful is an understatement. We toured Neuschwansetin Castle and traveled to the top of the Zugspitze – the highest point in Germany.
Before we knew it, it was Thanksgiving. Despite our efforts to not make too much food, we did. I mean, how can you not have leftovers for turkey sandwiches?!? On the final evening of Phil and Sandy’s trip, we traveled to the Mannheim Tower’s revolving restaurant for dinner. It was certainly a memorable end to their visit!
Fast forward to Christmas Eve. We were invited to spend the evening with our friends Cornelius and Pia and their families in Karlsruhe. It was lovely. When we arrived, they were singing around the plumpest tree I’ve ever seen. The tree was even lit with real candles – truly German! We enjoyed a fabulous four-course meal too. It was so wonderful to be included in this tradition and I’m so thankful to have such great friends here in Germany.
I am truly grateful for all that Kenne and I experienced together this year and I am excited for what 2016 has in store for us. It’s hard to believe we have been living in Germany for almost a year now. We are so thankful to have the opportunity to live in Europe and and to experience all it has to offer. While life in Europe has major perks, it is definitely difficult to be so far away from family and friends in the states. We miss and love you all and appreciate everyone who has stayed in touch this year.

Hard to say good bye to 2015, we loved visiting Ken, Kate, Remi and now Roxy. However, after our last visit…locking ourselves out of their house with Remi & Roxy in tow and almost being locked up by the German police not sure if we are to much of an “adventure” for them – hahaha. We truly have such great times visiting and they make us feel so welcome. We now have a key to their home so now we can actually surprise them after their work day, hahahaha. We are now so comfortable using the local transportation, i.e. planes, trains, automobiles and buses. Look out, it may be “surprise’ in 2016!

WOW!!! Happy New Year, Kate and Ken! What a fabulous post! So happy for you that you are living such a wonderful experience. Reminds me, so much, of the time I spent with Chris in Germany. Absolutely and totally unforgettable, so joyous, filled with love and laughter.
